IT TAKES TIME
by Joanne Lowe July 3, 2006
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.
Amen.”
2 Peter 3: 18
King James Version
Jesus tells us to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ. When we are children, we don’t grow overnight. It
takes time for us to grow physically and it takes time for us to learn
right from wrong. Many times our parents have to say “no” to us over and
over again until we finally learn that we aren’t supposed to do it.
The same is true with Jesus. He has to tell us over and over that we are
to love one another with unconditional love. He has to say “no” to us
sometimes because we want something that isn’t good for us, or isn’t in
His will for us. When we make a mistake, we need to ask Him for
forgiveness and learn from it so that we don’t do it again. It is
important that we realize that we aren’t perfect just because we are
saved. The only perfect person was Jesus. He never sinned one time or
did anything wrong.
For us to grow spiritually we must read the Bible and spend time with
Jesus. It is not enough to memorize the Bible; we must put it into
practice. One of my pastors told us in a sermon “A man memorized the
entire Bible word for word, but he went home and beat his wife.” If we
aren’t doing what Jesus tells us to do in the Bible, we not only are
hurting Him, we don’t love Him. When you love someone then you do your
best to make that person happy.
Don’t get discouraged if you fail Jesus. Ask Him to help you conquer
whatever it is that is keeping you from walking in harmony with Him. It
takes time for us to learn to love as He wants us to love people,
however He will help us.
