NO UNIFORM
by Joanne Lowe
June 12, 2006
“I know thy works, that thou art
neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because
thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my
mouth.”
Revelation 3: 15, 16
King James Version
I was listening to the radio yesterday and I heard a pastor say in a
sermon “There are no veterans in God’s army because as long as we are
here on earth we are soldiers in His army”. I was thinking about what he
said last night and I was reminded of what Jesus said in these verses.
Not only are there no veterans in God’s army, there are many people who
have never put on the uniform of service for Jesus.
It would be tragic if Jesus suffered and died for us and all we did was
just warm the pews at church and did nothing to spread His Love. There
are people who have asked Jesus to forgive them for their sins and come
into their hearts and save them, but they have never put on the uniform
of service.
We must die to our own selfish wants if we are to be a good soldier for
Jesus. We need to put others ahead of ourselves. We must be loving,
kind, compassionate, and above all, forgive as Jesus has forgiven us.
When people look at a soldier of Jesus, they should see someone who has
the peace, joy and love of Jesus radiating from him or her. That doesn’t
mean that a soldier should smile all the time. It does mean that even in
the midst of trials and heartaches a soldier will have a joy and peace
that will spread to other people.
Have you put on the uniform of service for Jesus? Are you warming the
pews and watching television most of the day, or are you in active
service for Jesus?
